Day 3 - New York Fashion Week

Some well known labels showcased their collections for the new season today, including Lacoste and L.A.M.B., but my favourites from the day were Prabal Gurung and Alexander Wang.

Prabal Gurung has pattern making skills which are inexplicable, I have loved every single print or pattern he has conjured ever since his beginnings. This season feels very oceanic and aquatic, with the shiny silk emphasizing the underwater quality of the prints. The mix of blue hues and iridescence create an atmosphere of ethereal calmness, paradoxical to the structural garments. This collection has got to be one of Prabal's best.

Alexander Wang FW12

The show was an outstanding example of how art and fashion can intertwine to create a spectacle for the audience. The installation art set the mood for the show - dark, eerie and trance inducing, whilst the models walked out epitomizing what could be described as "high fashion goth". The craftsmanship of the garments amazes me - Alexander Wang knows how to create movement in fabric without having it extend from the garment, and that is a skill that takes practice. I no doubt love this collection, it's a shame I can't wear any of these eerily beautiful pieces.
